Color Me RealOpening on Thursday, September 11, 2008 from 6 to 8 PM, at the Windsor Art Center is an exhibition titled Color Me Real dedicated to the internationally recognized artist, the late Sol LeWitt, whose contribution to color as subject and object, meaning and material, process and art is significant to many generations of artists. Born in Hartford, he later lived in New Britain, finally residing in Chester (CT) living/working there and in New York City and Italy. LeWitt was linked to many movements. including Conceptual Art and Minimalism. His media were predominantly painting, drawing, and "structures" (a term he preferred, in opposition to sculpture) but he is most well noted for his “wall drawings”--- monumental site-specifics installations, the subject of a retrospective at MASS MoCA this coming November. LeWitt died in April 2007 and this show is dedicated to him. Special thanks and appreciation to Carol LeWitt and the LeWitt Family for allowing us the opprotunity to honor the work of Sol LeWitt, especially in the context of color. Color Me Real establishes the concepts and themes, which highlight color and its multiple roles in visual art. Color has been the subject of several shows, most notably the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) exhibition Color Chart. Eight Connecticut artists will be shown: the painters are Ethan Boisvert, Chet Kempczynski, Patricia Rosoff, and Gabriela Galarza Block, photographer and author Walter Wick, sculptor Tom Doyle with weavings by Jane Doyle, and the lens-based artist, Ellen Carey, who uses the large format Polaroid 20 X 24 camera, one of five in the world, is also the exhibition’s curator.
