Members’ Show 2020

The Windsor Art Center IS OPEN! (Masks and social distancing are still required. Number of visitors at a time will be limited) The Sixth Annual Member’s Show runs through September 12, 2020. WAC member’s shows have consistently won accolades from visitors awed by the talents of its members and the range of styles, subjects, and media of their artwork. Submitting artists include both professional and avocational artists and are of all ages with the commonality of expressing themselves through their visual art. Awards are given for Best in Show, Second Place, Honorable Mention, and Young Participant Recognition. This year’s winners are:

Windsor Art Center membership is open to anyone who wishes to support the center’s mission of “celebrating creativity and inspiring an appreciation for diverse artistic cultures by showcasing the visual and performing arts.” Those interested in exhibiting or participating in other activities can join or renew their membership online. Art Rocks! Treasure hunt for everyone! Beginning Saturday, July 25, 10am
All are welcome to come to the Windsor Art Center for a rock treasure hunt. All those one-of-a-kind painted rocks created by local artists and residents in response to our call for rock artists will inundate the perimeter of the Windsor Art Center. Find and take a rock or two that speaks to you!

Selfie challenge: Take a picture of yourself (mask included) in front of your favorite Member’s show artwork. Most creative award will be selected at the end of the exhibition and will win a $25.00 Windsor Art Center gift card

  • Artists Among Us: Artist Mini-Talks will be shown online soon! Cancelled Saturday September 12, 2:00pm. Windsor Art Center Members will speak briefly about their works, process, subject matter, etc.

Art Receiving:   Friday, July 10, 5-7pm & Saturday, July 11, 10am – 12noon

Art Pick-up:      Saturday, September 12, 4-5pm & Sunday, September 13, 11am – 1pm

Cash Prize for Best in Show $150; Second Place $75; Honorable Mention non-cash award; and a Young Participant Recognition non-cash award.

Prospectus guidelines: 

  • Must be a current member of Windsor Art Center (WAC) to submit work; you may renew or start a membership online at: windsorartcenter.org
  • All works must be hand delivered on the designated dates and times to Windsor Art Center, 40 Mechanic Street, Windsor, CT.
  • Members may submit 2 works (properly prepared** using ID Tags attached – one on the front and one on the back); at least 1 work will be hung/installed (dependent on number of submissions received). Windsor Art Center reserves the right to exclude any work of art it deems inappropriate (including, but not limited to: content, size, weight, execution or preparation).
  • Submit a completed and signed Artist Contract.
  • Work must be original, created without supervision, have been completed within the past 5 years and not have been previously exhibited at WAC.
  • All works must be FOR SALE (Please, no NFS or POR). Exhibitors age 17 and younger are excluded from this.
  • Member determines retail price and provides insurance value; WAC will retain 30% commission on all works sold during exhibition or as a result of its being seen in this exhibition. 
  • Works must remain on view throughout the entirety of the exhibition (no early removals). 
  • Purchased work may be picked up on retrieval dates/times with a valid WAC receipt.
  • Unsold works must be removed promptly on designated retrieval dates/times (Other dates/times may be arranged in advance; artist may also designate an alternate person to retrieve their work. A valid photo ID may be required).
  • Any items left at the gallery after retrieval dates/times become the property of WAC and will be disposed of at the discretion of WAC.
  • **All two-dimensional work must be ready to hang/install (matted, framed, glazed) with d-rings (preferred) or properly installed wire: no clips or saw-tooth hardware or the like can be accepted.
    All paintings on stretcher bars or panels must include d-rings (preferred) or wires for installation.
    All sculpture must be stable and have its own pedestal/base on which it is to be displayed and be light enough for 2 people to handle.
  • Please retain a copy of the Prospectus.

Juror of Award: Carianne Mack Garsides, Professor of Fine Arts, Tunxis Community College, Farmington, CT.
Carianne Mack Garside was born in Coldspring, NY, grew up in the woods of Northwestern CT, and has lived in many cities across the U.S. since. She received a B.F.A. from Alfred University and an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa. Carianne also studied at the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Italy. She is a practicing artist currently working in large-format watercolors with studio experience in oil painting, gouache, printmaking, book binding, metal forging, bronze casting, glass blowing, glass casting, plaster sculpture, and video. Exhibitions include Lo River Arts Gallery in Beacon, NY; Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, CA; A.I.R. Gallery in NYC; Wendy Cooper Gallery in Madison, WI; the INOVA center at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee; ArtLab space at the University of Memphis Museum of Art, Memphis, TN. Her work is installed in numerous private and corporate spaces worldwide including Hilton Hotels (Columbus, OH, Houston, TX, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Sandestin, FL) Windham Hotel, Atlanta, GA and Missouri State Bank and Duke University. Her work has also been featured in Studio Visit Magazine, and is she currently represented by Soho Myriad Art Consultants in Atlanta, GA. Garside has taught at The University of Iowa, The University of Northern Iowa and The University of CT, as well as other institutions. She is currently a Professor of Fine Arts at Tunxis Community College in Farmington, CT, and is back living in the CT woods with her husband and 3 children.
