Be inspired by the current exhibition and create your own Whimsical Tree, a playful, vibrant painting using line, color, and symbols using acrylic paints on canvas. All art materials provided for one complete acrylic work of art on canvas.

October 17, 24, 31, November 7, 14, 21 • Six Mondays 9:30AM-12:30PM
5 sessions with live model, final session for firing prep

Working from life, build the figure using this time-honored material. You will hone your powers of observation and knowledge of the human figure through 15 hours with the model. The sculpture will then be hollowed-out in preparation for firing. This terracotta is a water-based clay that has a beautiful finish when fired, but can also be finished, using various methods. Examples from history and the studio will be shown. This method offers a simple and direct way to create and preserve your original sculpture.

Tuition: $265 • There is no member discount on this class.
Model fee is additional and divided among students. Clay is approximately $30 and firing is an additional fee.

5 sessions with live model, final session for firing prep

Examples from history show how wonderful the portrait can be in this versatile material. Working from life, structure, proportion, anatomy of the head and shoulders, and the character of the model will be addressed as you build upon a simple support that will allow for easy removal. Fifteen hours will be spent with the model with the final session reserved for hollowing and re-assembling in preparation for firing. You will gain confidence in sculpting through this enjoyable process.

Discover how haiku can reveal the radiance of your most ordinary moments. Poet Stanford M. Forrester will share the many aspects of writing haiku and how to integrate it into your art and spiritual practice. Each participant will learn the skills necessary to approach a haiku as well as compose, revise, and recite haiku through various exercises and methods.
